...Because convo spoiled my weekend

I had my commencement ceremony yesterdy, so headed to UCC with the parents. shookhands with people whose names i've forgotten, took pictures with old friends etc etc.

would post pics, but i don't know where i left the camera (i brought it home, my sis kept it, and now i cant find it).

commencement ruined my weekend...i needed sleep badly, but ended up having to wake up at about 8am on a saturday morning to attend a ceremony which purpose was just to make my parents happy. and it doesnt help, when u're tired after a week of hard work, and someone who barely knows u, says to you: "oh, your job should be quite slack right?".

!#$%^&*

i shook hands and collected the degree-scroll container from some chancellor who i didnt know, whose name i didnt catch, had my name and my degree emblazoned on a projector screen for a brief 3seconds for the view of people i didnt know. Well, at least my name was read out correctly.

and the parents went crazy and bought a liNUS the nus lion and parted with more cash for a photograph of me frowning on stage. :| (i insist it not be junked in my room because i didnt want it, it's mum who bought it) . good thing gillian was there for me, because i was in a semi conscious state, and she helped me to get my sash ironed and pinned to my gown (she fussed over me like a proud mum! lol).

i came home, KO'd till evening time, had dinner and KO'd till this morning. i apologise for not joining you guys later in the night for a post-commencement bash. i was feeling abit low-batt.

all the things i wanted to do over the weekend has pretty much not yet been done (however, i managed to sneak some time this morning to buy shampoo, conditioner and deodourant so some of my "things to do" can be struck off the list).

already, it's sunday, and i dont really feel rested, and will be trying to go out later in the day to get some work clothes and more comfortable shoes because wearing covered toes everyday is kinda giving me foot-rot, so i really have to come up with something to save my feet.

so that's it for my weekend, next week will be an even busier week for me. i'll be attending a two day course at science park for some training on how to use a machine, and doing night shift on thurs and fri and working on saturday (just in case u guys wanna jio me out...next week is gonna be kinda tight). thank god for blogs, because i know i havent really been chatting with you guys. :S

Even so, inspite of all my whinging,

it feels good being able to spend $40 on toiletries and not have my ATM card rejected when using NETS, and i'm lucky because i'm really enjoying my work.

It's been in the news lately that mrbrown was chastised for his Today article and has had his column suspended and it also looks like he will be suspending his blog too.

it's nothing new that the cost of living is going up(has gone up and is going to go up, whatever), and has gone up after elections. there was a small small article hidden in the depths of the straits times during election season about the eminent fee-hike - sorry - fare-adjustment in buses in a month or two after elections (i commented on this before to some friends, so we WERE informed of a fare-adjustment that would be coming up after elections).

it's a pity that mrbrown has to stop writing. as the gov's national ideology of "family as the basic social unit", i would think that mrbrown best promotes this . we all loved reading his posts about his life, wife, children and parents. he makes it cool to have children, to love your spouse, and to enjoy building the "family life". he is living proof that it is possible to have a family, own a car, live happily inspite of some burdens that would be like a "death sentence" to some people, work, blog and churn out podcasts and still have time to play WoW and go on dinner dates with his wife. He has also written and provided much inspiration to fellow singaporeans about living more healthily through healthy eating and exercise with his recent weightloss article. he has brought to attention life as a parent of a child with special needs, and what life is like for a child with special needs. I would also think, that he is someone who loves his country - in the sense, that he feels compelled to provide satire to comment on local issues - when most of us are just simply apathetic and couldnt care less. if he didnt write about it, who would?

In fact, mrbrown is a real motivation to me, showing that you just gotta keep going even when cash gets tight, and work gets busy. being single and being able to find a job after graduation, i truly am lucky because i'm pretty much burden-free. happiness is a mindset, we just gotta get in the right frame of mind!

Since there's not much else we can do than complain about this whole thing, ive decided to exercise my consumer rights. I won't be reading the Today paper anymore. i'll revert to my novels for my MRT rides now, the english is of a better standard, anyway. I now understand why many singaporeans have given up local media, and switched to online news coverage by foreign news agencies.
