"my fav hobby is sleeping"

i just read a blog by an angmoh expat dude who's been living here for a year, with a mention about how surfing friendster, alot of girls list sleeping as a hobby.

well i don't think it's just girls. i think all singaporeans list sleeping as a hobby.

the term "hobby" is defined by wikipedia to be a "a spare-time recreational pursuit", and recreation is defined as an "activity that refreshes and recreates; activity that renews your health and spirits by enjoyment and relaxation".

therefore, i think it's no surprise that singaporeans list sleeping as a hobby.

it's something that we do in our SPARE time and it's an activity that renews our health and spirits. it's relaxing and we enjoy it.

and sleep is a rare "activity" that singaporeans enjoy, it's something we do in our spare time. in the typical 9-5 job. and imagine the OT till 11pm. coming home at bout 7ish or 10ish depending on your job, waking up at 6am to leave the house by 7.30 perhaps? then try fitting in your life - the friends, family, partner - into the amount of time left spent not at the office. and try fitting in time for urself. and finally, whatever time that's left, we sleep. but we don't sleep well because we keep thinking about work. so how many pple around u sleep only 4-5 hours a night? or lesser? it's terribly common, it's a lifestyle.

how else do you suppose that 24 hr macdonalds, supermarkets and shopping centres are such a big hit with singaporeans? we just do not have enough time in a day, and thus sleep becomes a luxury because it's something pple tend to put off last just to play an extra quest in wow, spend time chatting with the family, or makaning with the friends.

sigh, so not looking forward to the working life. :(
