...Because it's only once in 5 years
yes yes...it's ELECTIONS! wooot. I was woken up today by my sis who peered thru the door saying "wake up. we're going to cast our vote."
and no fair, everybody was up and dressed except me. :S
so my whole family ambled across the road (yes, right across, i can SEE it from my living room) and made up a small queue, handed a lady our IC who then read out "*** JO ***!".
why need to read out my name so loud? i shy lei.
there was no booth with a curtain like u see in the movies, instead i huddled at a v shaped voting stand that provided little coverage to pple walking around me, and crossed my box on a small piece of ledge, folder the ticket and dropped it into a big brown box.
for the first time in my life, i felt like a citizen, and the gov is at the mercy of my vote just this once.
it wasnt very crowded, didnt appear to be very crowded throughout the day, pple streamed in steadily and left steadily too. we only took 15min to walk in cast our vote and walk out. We were back home in a jiffy. the school was so quiet, it looked closed. the only thing that betrayed its serenity was the line of cars illegally parked by the road side, which was later chased away by the traffic police. at 7.55pm, 5 minutes before the polls close, I saw a few people making their way into their school - really late voters.
at 9pm, i see two SBS buses enter the school compounds - so cool, i believe they're counting the votes for the area in this school. so in 35min time, the TV news will be broadcasting the results of the elections live.
