Makan: Jap Food (Far East Plaza)
ok, bm wont be happy that i'm sharing this little gem with you guys.
but for the FIRST TIME EVER, i said THIS JAP FOOD IS NICEEEEE.
i've never liked jap food. i found it all very unexciting, tastes funny, and gives me a weird after taste.
BUT NOT THIS PLACE.

The shop is called....yakitori tei, or teriyaki tei....whatever tei lah i really cant remb. u gotta ask around with the store tenents in the building really, they'll direct u.
situated on the food floor of far east plaza, i cant tell u exactly where it is cuz i got lost. heh. but ask around, the shop tenents there, they might set u on the way (or ask bm).
In a cosy little shop (really a hole in the wall i tell u), the minute u step in, you feel like you're in Japan Hour. with the traditional U-shape countertop table that is so big it fills the tiny room, the walls are adorned with woodenplanks with japanese writing on them, wood panels cover the walls, and a strip of mirror running across the middle to make the small room appear larger - so much like the little eateries u see on japan hour on CNA man!
Meals are really cheap, for the portions and the skill in presentation etc. I have a beef set for $15, and bm had a chicken set for $8. (set = the dish, the rice, the miso soup, the appetizer, and the desert of watermelon or pudding, and refillable green tea) And it was SO YUMMY. The portion was quite sizeable, and I was quite full and for the first time ever bm was quite happy with a meal.
the chicken was awesome. crispy layer on the top, and tender meat below. the beef was fragrant, tho a little too salty for my liking, but tasty all the same.
The chef apparently trained in japan, and can converse very well with in japanese tourists.
It's a husband and wife team that mans this 16 (or 18?) seater place and they take a siesta break in the middle of the day (somewhere between 1-3pm leddat, cant remb the exact timing), opening only for lunch and dinner.
being a two man team = veryvery grumpy chef/husband and a very tired looking wife.
he's very grumpy i warn u..that's why i dunch dare to take pics. all secretly take one.
16 (or18?) seater counter = queue outside the door.
even with the queue and the rushed makan service (u feel bad for lingering because u're making them lose business - i think the chef might just yell at u lo), i'm a fan.
Delicious!

The place is called Wasabi Tei. That chef is called Peter. Me and my girl, we call him PMS. Yup for his forever grumpy look. But that's just him. He still talks if you actually talk to him.
Next time... Try his sashimi!!
It's the best I've taken so far. ;p
