Makan: Wanton Mee (Bedok)

This is the wanton mee of my childhood.



i ate it ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY back when I was in bedok, so much so, that the shop ladies actually saw me grow up. :P



Delicious because of the chilli (you cant tell from the pic, but the noodles are actually coated red), I was arguing with my dad about the noodles.

He says, it's lower grade noodles, he prefers the spring-ier ones.

but to me, i love the noodles. it's no crunchy like the springier ones, and so provides a satisfying chew thru it, but yet, not so fluffy that you feel like u're eating maggi mee thats been soaked for too long.

but it's the chilli that makes us all come back for more. if u're ever there, remember, ask for a lot of chilli!

the charsiew is pretty lean,that's what i like because i really just hate animal fat, but the soup and dumplings are not very fantastic.

so far, all friends that we have introduced the noodles to, love it.



i hold all other wanton mees up to this standard - i've never been able to find a replacement nearerbyer to my new residence.



Now that's good wanton mee!



Location: Blk 501 thereabouts, Bedok North Ave 3 Hawker Centre. The stall has a red signage, near the ABC Bak-Chor-Mee store, facing the street (when u're there u'll figure it out).

Cost: $2 a plate. You can request for kaisi (shredded chicken) or "vegetarian" (just veg, no meat)


Also in the same hawker centre: Mornings - Lor Mee (inward facing, store also sells char kway tiao and laksa), Fish soup noodles/rice (inward facing. it's the morning partner of the night time "prawn fritters" stall). At night - there's Jet Winds Western Food (inward facing, connermost stall), Bak-Chor-Mee Soup (road racing, middle store) and BBQ chicken wings (next to the chompchomp chickenwing store), and prawn fritters etc like the chinese version of indian rojak kinda thing (inward facing).
