...Because it reminds you on how shaped we are by policies...
i'm off to work in 10mins, and i've yet to dress for work, but i decided to blog a lil before i rush off.
heard on the news today, that some policy has been changed to allow mothers bearing children out of wedlock to enjoy maternity leave - on the condition that they marry the father of the baby soon after.
Previously, this was not possible. and currently, single mums -who need more effort in raising a child as they are doing it without the support of a partner - are not entitled to maternity leave (i've seen this in my contract too). This also takes a single parent away from their child for longer hours.
the reason for such a policy, would be to "encourage procreation and child rearing within the context of a marraige."
and yet, in sex education, the topic of the use of protection during sexual activity takes a back seat to abstinence until marraige.
does this anger you? Sometimes you wonder if this generalization of children born to single mums are just supposed to be messed up, or it's the policies in place that ensure that these kids lack more parental guidance than they should have.
