surfed blinkymum's page, and was reminded of a topic could;ve blogged of recently after having watched it live on tv but was just to lazy to blog it back then - mm lee's dialogue with "young pple".
was actually watching on behalf of gil, because she had to study for a test. but she was soon to learn, that i am a lousy summarizer.
but i defend myself ok?
I just couldnt pay attention at the content and began nit picking at the attendees, for the same things BM pointed out
they were damn rude. Other than tone, kept butting in to other pple. didnt their parents teach them that they were supposed to wait for other pple to be done first? butt into mm lee? u think that, u 60/60 interviewer ah. whilst u may not agree with his views/policies, it does not mean that he is NOT a man of caliber that should be respected. he has done so much more than u. (Some how, remind me of those bloody arrogant pple i meet all the time in school. not of much substance, but have this perpetual and annoying greater-than-thou behaviour. ( must be RPS/RG/RI/RJC just joking) kaos eh. they just wont sit still and shuddup. especially the one in green in front right in centre.
they asked really shallow questions (in a very disrespectful tone nonetheless) with no apparent thought put into it - ie; i do not think they prepared for this dialogue session.
And i thought journalists were political science students??!?!?!? how da come, they make boh liao allegations based on "MY FRIENDS SAY ONE". wah lao eh, felt like i was attending a JC seminar when i was watching, i thought it was only in your teens that what others think would matterso much to u that you dnno what YOU think. then they say things, just to get rebutted and look stupid - but i says, orbigood. think properly first lah, he is a man who has had manouvered his way through party-turbulance into leadership of that party, faced the communists and the media-claims that HE was a communist, experience negotiating with world leaders for YEARS (he's 80 already lor?) and somemore...he is an old school lawyer (I think Mrs Goh bruff one). What makes you think, your questions when unsubstantiated with facts from a text book, could stand up to his arguments with facts garnered from first hand experience? SO PLEASE, ask all the questions u want, but wipe that smirk off your face when u do it.
I swear, there was a mob mentality going on, with everyone just wanting to take a cheap shot.
however, i was particular interested in the particular question on why MM Lee would continue to stay in politics. I would think he is just being a perfectionist - unable to let someone else take over fully and relinquish all say in it. but thats what I think. much better if can hear what HE thinks.

Mr Lee, there are two parts to my question. It is a rather sensitive question, but i do not mean to be rude. Having shaped Singapore to where it is today, you have become a figure that is much respected, even idolised for generations to come. so much so that everyone has so much belief in what you have to say - that is why we're having this dialogue session today with you, as you had done in other sessions many times before. However, having shaped singapore from what it is from her birth, Singapore has never been without your guidance. Why have you chosen to continue to play a part in government, albeit a smaller role, and do you think, although the PAP is able to formulate ideas and policies on their own, your continued presence is a kind of safety net for the hearts of the people? As a Singaporean, I would feel a sudden loss in abilities of the government, if you were no longer able to play a part in politics after having you around, as the party by far, has never been without you.
of cuz, this is a shoot urself question, because he will NEVER acknowledge that he made a misjudgement/erorr whatever, and he will never say that the pap are unable to stand on their own.
so there.
when they talked bout political apathy amongst the singaporeans, i would say he is in denial. He cannot saythat we are, he can only say it supports the gov. tho what he says is true, if we didnt have housing, jobs, food...pple would be rioting to over throw the gov. ie - if u already have nothing to lose and is living in shit, u would not be afraid to lose what you don't have. however, i think it's more of, we're lulled into political apathy from feeling powerless over generations to change the government or change governmental policies. though providing the needs satsifactorily, we could do nothing about the flaws, but live with them anyway because we really cant be bothered to when all we call about is me-myself-and-i. Care enough for survival, but don't bother about improving for progress of the country. makes sense? what troubles us i would think, is that the flaws that are not countered by the lack of checks and balances ie- the opposition. But MM lee looked sad a teary at this pt of disccussion, i think he see these "young pple" and his heart just breaks. i feel so sad for US lor, because THEY are representative of OUR segment of the population.
But why ask the gov WHY is there no opposition? It's simply because there is no STRONG opposition!
would u feel better if your opposition had to be hand-held to the competitors booth to champion your cause??? in the KR ministerial forum, MM Lee went even as far as to say to the audience "ORGaNISE YOURSELVES AND RUN AS AN OPPOSITION". how true is that? why complain when u can form your own party and run? buay song? lai lah!!! the compaign fee ($13k (130k???) i think per person or party, and i believe that sponsors must make themselves known. but i think, with the number of anti-pap pple overseas......), though is unfairly put in place for by the ruling party, but again - which ruling party would make things easy to be contested?!?!?!?
instead,
the dialogue session should be with the opposition - why so hard to get funds, why so much lack of quality leaders in their party (and why would theyadmit that and say al lthe quality ones went to pap.??), etc.
instead,
should free the erm..4th? or is it 5th estate? the media? from the control of the gov. see. i dun even know what is free media until i cant rem is 4th or 5th. fair media coverage is always lacking.
ok lah, i spent bout an hr bloging bout something rather bohliaos because i AM a politically apathetic singaporean. bleahs.
